Interview with Joe Atkins, an educator, concerning the desegregation of North Texas State College from 1955-1956. Atkins discusses his rejection for admission; Atkins vs. Matthews; early civil rights activities with the NAACP Youth Council in Dallas; Juanita Craft, Thurgood Marshall, W.H. Durham, and other civil rights leaders; J.C. Matthews, Arthur Sampley, and other administrators at North Texas State College; and his decision to attend Texas Western College. The Appendix includes photocopies of newspaper clippings from the Dallas Morning News [2 leaves]
